Monserrate : Bogota, Colombia

We are back from another adventure! This time we traveled to beautiful Colombia to celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary and Matt’s 30th . . . two for one trip :) Those that know me, or perhaps you may have noticed, I LOVE to travel. It’s always so great to step outside my bubble, see a new part of the world and spend some quality time together. We knew we wanted to go somewhere or do something (to collect experiences not stuff!) for our anniversary and honestly I was pretty set on California to see Big Sur (someday!) for a quickie within the US trip . . . but the price tag just kept adding up (geez expensive hotels) being that it was over Memorial day weekend and all. I find it hard to justify spending lots on a hotel since we never really spend much time there as we’re always too busy out exploring, but I also don’t like to sacrifice a convenient location.

Anyhow . . . I had started hearing some good things about Colombia, as well as a few photos around Pinterest caught my eye and turns out visiting Bogotá was more affordable than California. Plus a random adventure I could not resist! So we changed our plans and headed to Colombia!!

Quick explanation before the photos (which will hopefully prove my point ;)  . . . everyone asked us ‘why Colombia?’ Besides simply why not, my usual attitude, it is very affordable (hello cheap hotels, taxis, free sights and food & beverages!), great scenery & views set in the Andes mountains (it is all about the views for us when we travel). Plus,  Bogotá is a huge city (3rd biggest in our hemisphere) with an excellent mix of old and new, with fabulous architecture.

One of our favorite parts of the entire trip was visiting the Monserrate – a mountain that dominates the city center of Bogotá, the capital city of Colombia. It rises to 3,152 meters (10,341 ft) above the sea level, where there is a church, restaurants and fabulous views. We LOVED it so much we visited TWICE! Once for sunset (even though it was a touch gray out . . got some fun night photos however) and a couple days later just to spend a relaxing day and lunch at one of the delicious restaurants. Hope you enjoy a look at Bogotá from above!
